ATTITUDE ~ By Chris Bowman

March 23, 2014

Whether you are a new amputee, or a seasoned veteran like myself, your outlook on your situation can be the difference between a quick recovery and readjustment period and a slow, very painful, up-hill climb towards your goals. Quite simply put, attitude makes all the difference!

It can be hard to keep a good attitude when times get tough, that is just part of our human nature. So how do we do it? Well it starts with a mindset that you will overcome any obstacles placed in your path. From there, you develop a plan to attack these obstacles in short, concise goals. Breaking a large situation or issue into smaller sections allows you to work through these without getting worn too thin and wanting to give up. A marathon isn’t won in 26.2 miles, it is won with one foot in front of the other. Before you know it, you are at the finish line, this is what I mean by a series of short, attainable goals.

It also helps to know that each set back is not the end of the line, every day truly is a chance for things to go right again. Keep up the positivity and the opportunities for recovery and future greatness abound! Your recovery will go smoother, physical therapy will be easier, and each mountain you climb will seem more like a hill if you have the right attitude! Don’t forget that no matter what has happened in your life, if you can look up, you can get up!
